    First topic message reminder :

Hey, let's talk about games! What games does everyone like?

Me, I like pretty much every kind of video game except for sports and most racing games (I do like Mario Kart). For other kinds of games, I like pretty much everything. Board games, card games, tabletop RPGs, everything. I can't really afford miniatures games, though.

Some of my favorite video game series are Kirby, Sonic (I miss the old days), Fire Emblem, Command & Conquer (Red Alert especially), No More Heroes, _____ vs. Capcom (and Capcom vs. SNK), Pokemon, Super Robot Wars, Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, and Ace Attorney.

Some of my favorite traditional games are Yu-Gi-Oh, Magi Nation Duel, Arkham Horror, 7th Sea, Mutant City Blues, Munchkin, Maid RPG, Toon, and RIFTS.

Makes sense to me. Actually, breaking a rule or going out-of-character in James' games give us Karma points. Kind of fun, really.

We don't use karma points, but in James' fiance's game, I have a character with 4 ranks in Knowledge: Plot Device. I made a joke about puting points into it, and she said do it so I did. I use it alot, which is good because we tend to get of track about what we should be doing alot. I'm the NPC in the party that will tell you what our current quest is, and what we should be doing next.

Eh, that's what I use Gather Information for. I'm also pretty bad at DMing. Unfortunately, I don't know how to do it without accidental railroading. I'm not proud of that.

Generally it is thought that if you are not a good DM or it is your first time DMing, and you are playing DnD, only use the classes in the Players Handbook, and only use the Monster Manual and the DMG.

The thing is, I did. Mind you, I did run a few homebrewed monsters, but they were quite different in the dungeon. If you stand around doing nothing, they won't appear at all. Meaning that you can get yourself healed up in time.

There was a first time DM that had their first game be a Gestalt campain.

It was as bad as you think, expecially since he sucked at making the enemies the proper level. Seriously, level 16 non gestalt barbars against level 8 gestalt characters? One on one? I was the only one that could kill one, and that is because I had a Warlock/Rogue and Sneak Attack and Warlock's Blast stacks, and Icould turn invisible every round as a standard action. And fly.

The enemy to character balance wasn't bad at all, in my game, atleast. It was that everybody apparently hates homebrew monsters where I'm from.

Honestly, I'm quite adverse against most types of Homebrew, be it a class or a race or a monster, plus I am kinda against mixing stuff from differeng Role Playing Games and using things for DnD not made by WotC DnD.

The thing is, that was their entire reason. They never mentioned how the balance was off or that the enemies didn't work at all.

And frankly, most of the monsters in the Monster Manual aren't terribly balanced. I hate sticking with the same old stuff. It's freakin' boring to me. I mean, Clam Mimics were hilarious, IMO.

If you have to make up new monsters because the ones in the MM are "boring" then I question how well the story was.

That was the other problem. I couldn't figure out one for a while. I had to seperate storylines in general. One of them was a MacGuffin Quest to safe the world, the other, I can't remember.

Hm... I mean, if you can't think of a plot, then make up a bunch of activities for the players to do, like check out some ruins, or join a caravan, or maybe do a quest for a noble? All three of these thins could be jobs on a quest board, and they could choose what to do. It is okay to not have a story, but knowing you...

Honestly, storyline is less important to me in a game. I care about the gameplay. That's why I like Quest 64 the most. No stupid storyline that's hard to understand. No whiny and/or emo characters to deal with. Nice and simple. Also, I haven't run a game in a long time for that reason. I'm just no good at storylines that others would play with.

I play games for the story. It is a bit of a pet peave of mine when people don't care about the story at all or why they are doing this or that or shooting him or her.

Don't get me wrong. I just need enough storyline to get the reason why I'm kicking butt. But that's it. Most of the Final Fantasies have storylines that are so huge that they're boring as hell. VIII's was okay in some ways, and atleast Squall was interesting despite how emotionless he acted. He had a damn good reason to do so.

I have OCD, so me going with about a million things happening at once is just too confusing. Golden Sun Dark Dawn is an example of this. The other two games were fine, but all the storyline did was make constant Points of No Return, which was the worst decision Camelot could've made.

The best way to revitalize a bored D&D group is to play the Head of Vecna module.

Well, since I'm late to showing up and I don't anyone will even flinch, I'll add my own opinion to what games I like.

...In terms of favourite Video Game 'Series'? I like Fire Emblem & Advance Wars, along with Super Robot Wars and Luminous Arc and a helping of Yggdra Union. I'm also a fan of the 'Mana' series, such as Sword of Mana, Children of Mana and Secret of Mana. And let's not forget the Mega-Man X, Zero and ZX games as well, my favourites being X4/8, 3/4 and ZX Advent respectively.

I've been a Sonic fan my entire life and APART from Sonic 2006...I haven't really found many games to be completely bad. Sure, they have thier horrible flaws but there's usually something to make up for that in some way. I also play Pokemon, starting with Yellow...and then Crystal, Emerald, Pearl/Platinum and Soul-Silver.

I also enjoy Final Fantasy, King of the Fighters, Guilty Gear, Street Fighter and various cross-overs of fighting games. And lastly, basically anything made by Nippon Ichi & Gust, espically Disagea 2/3 and Soul Nomad, along with Atelier Iris 1 & 3...

As for indivdual games...? Let's see...well, there's quite a list so maybe another time!
