    Silver's Memory Journal

I cannot say for sure why my death was not the end of my story, nor can I say for sure what has brought me to the world known as "The Rift". In fact, there is quite a bit I do not know about myself. With this journal, I hope to change this.

I started off as a wandering soul, with no memories of my past, not even my name. I took the name of "Silver" on the advice of my friend, and resolved to travel with those people fortunate enough to find me. But slowly but surely, memories began to flood back to me. Little snippets of memory that I am trying to make sense of.

The most notable of these I will document in these journals. Perhaps I can piece together my past this way, organize my thoughts into a coherent form. I hope that this experiment proves enlightening.

I will first write down the memories I've been fortunate enough to experience already. Most of them are snippets of my early life, most relatively boring. But a few stick out.

    -Memory 1-

I am around 6 years old in this memory, being read to one of my favorite old legends, "Galwan the Green", I believe. In fact, there are a great many memories like this, of similar tales of heroism, of swordplay, of valor. I did love these so very much, and I trained in the art of swordplay to be just like them. When I was younger? A stick or branch was usually my weapon of choice, later, a wooden training sword, but by the time I was in my teens I had already begun mastering the forms with a blade of steel.

I remember in one of them, I asked my father if I could one day be a hero like Galwan.

    He said yes.

I wonder if that ended up being the case?

    -Memory 2-

A brief one. I am running home to my father, asking him if I was "cursed" because magic didn't work around me. I am quite surprised by this revelation, as in my spectral state it seems that this is no longer the case. But regardless of reasons, it seems that in life, I had been blessed by the goddess "Azreal", whoever She may be, to receive this blessing. "Not a curse" said my father.

I was told that being a "blank" was a rare and special thing, and that in all likelihood I had a special destiny to play in world events. I have poked and prodded my mind for what I eventually do, but nothing comes up. I only know that I apparently died in armor. But was I playing the part of the hero, or the villain?

    -Memory 3-

Only a short speech. No environment or context, only the words remain for now. I have jotted them down from memory as best I can.

"...Let me ask you this. Was it all worth it? Look around you. Was it truly worth all the suffering you caused? The slaughter? You alone must have been responsible for hundreds of death. Can you even fathom the suffering your "rebellion" has caused? I doubt so.

I'm here to put an end to this senseless slaughter and bring peace to Pelys. Nothing else matters to me.

    ...

Let's finish this. Now is the time you must answer for your crimes, Martin. Draw your sword. "

I have no idea who this Martin may be, but I shudder to think of what a cruel villain he must have been to provoke such a speech from me. Perhaps I will find out in time.
